►wizard of oz...
took up an interesting elective in special sem, and it kinda taught me to watch films in a very different way.
have u ever watched wizard of oz? i guess everyone has heard of that story and frankly, i din think it was a 'wahhhh' storyline when i first heard of it. but after attending 5 weeks of this module, i think wizard of oz is a great film.
its more than just a kiddish film...instead, it has a lot of hidden meaning. It talks about how childhood (how children wanna quickly get home when they realised the outside world isnt as great as they thought it was), and human nature. a lot of times, people possess something that they always thought that they never had. and when the time comes, human instinct helps to bring out that potential in them.
just like the scarecrow that thought he had no brains. but he displayed thinkings and wittyness when trying to save dorothy and gang out of the castle. and the lion that claimed to have no courage. but he still joined in the mission of saving dorothy from the scary wicked witch. and the tinman who had wanted a heart so that he can have feelings and be sentimental. but the fact that he wanted to save dorothy so badly showed how much he was already bonded to dorothy depsite the short amount of time spent together. They all thought that the wizard granted them something that they always wanted - the brain, the courage and the heart. But in actual fact, the wizard gave them nothing but only assurance. these were what they got from the wizard: the scarecrow got a PHD degree, the lion got a plaque for displaying courage and the tinman got a heart-shaped ticking clock. (i think so). but well, it doesnt matter, my point is, the wizard did not give them exactly what they wanted, they got what they wanted by believing that they possessed those traits through the recognition they got from the items.
i guess humans are really like what is displayed here. sometimes they think they are stupid, timid and heartless. they will always think, if only i were a bit braver....or if i were a little bit smarter....if only......BUT a lot of times is what they think that makes them what they are. well well, i guess thats when confidence comes in.
watch the film if u have the chance.
